ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON “CORROSION IN CONCRETE AND REHABILITATION”
This was jointly organized with the Society for Surface Protection on 18-9-2018 for the final year students of Civil Engineering. The SSPC MCET chapter was also inaugurated on 18-09-18. The inaugural meeting was coordinated by Prof Megha M. The meeting was addressed by Dr. AshalathaThampuran, Director and Principal Dr. Sheela. Mr. KGK Moorthy (President SSPC, South India) gave an Introduction to SSPC and also introduced the chief guest Dr. A S Khanna (Chairman of SSPC, India, Prof, IIT Bombay). Prof A S Khanna delivered the keynote address on the topic “Domain of Corrosion and Advanced Technologies to Combat Corrosion”.
THREE DAY FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING FACULTY MEMBERS ON THE TOPIC “CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT IN BIM”
Department of Civil Engineering, Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology and BIMLABS jointly organized a 3 day Faculty Development Programme for Civil Engineering Faculty members on the topic “Construction Management in BIM”. This hands on workshop included (1) Managing Building Models in Revit, Architectural, Structural & MEP, (2) Project Management 4D, 5D in BIM and (3) Project Review, Construction Coordination, Construction Simulation, Connected BIM. The workshop was inaugurated by the Director Prof. AshalathaThampuran on 18-07-2018. The workshop was well participated by internal and external faculty members. The workshop was supported by ISTE, ICI and IEI professional chapters of the college.
WORKSHOP ON “REHABILITATION OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES”
This workshop was jointly conducted with Cera-Chem Private Limited on 27th April 2018, supported by MCET – ICI student chapter. Carbon Fiber wrapping is an advanced technology in civil engineering field for retrofitting the structures.Eventhough it’s been years after its introduction to the civil engineering field many are still not aware of this technology.Taking this into consideration, such a workshop was organized for the fourth semester students. The basic idea of the workshop was to compare the compressive strength of specimens with and without carbon fiber.Six specimens were casted out of which 3 was wrapped with carbon fiber and 3 were kept as raw specimen.
TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF MICROSOFT PROJECT JOINTLY BY INTERCAD AND ICI STUDENTS CHAPTER
27 students participated in the workshop organized on 25 and 26th April, 2018.
National Conferences
National Conferences on advanced areas of Civil Engineering are organized periodically (every year) by the department for bringing together academicians, researchers, and industry personals to share their research findings and innovations. This will help the teachers and students in acquiring knowledge in the latest developments in specified areas of their research interest. The Civil Department jointly organized with CSE and MCA Departments a two day national conference TECHSYNOD’16 and the theme for Civil Engineering Conference was Sustainability in Civil Engineering. In addition to large number of participants, eminent professors and technologists ( Prof. N. Ganesan, NIT Calicut; Prof. C. Ganapathy, Rtd Prof., IIT Madras; Mr Jose Kurian, Former CE, CPWD) gave key note talks. There was also a pre-conference One day Workshop on “Rainwater Harvesting”by Dr. M.V.S.S. Giridhar, HOD, Jawahar Lal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.
TWO WEEK ISTE STTP ON “INTRODUCTION TO STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING” ORGANIZED BETWEEN THE DATES JAN 4TH -9TH ,2015
This workshop organized by IIT Kharagpur under the National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Govt. of India was co-ordinated at Mohandas College of Engineering by Dr Narayanan. S , HOD Civil Engineering Department. Internal Faculty as well as faculty from nearby colleges participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated in the college by our Director Professor Ashalatha Thampuran.
Faculty Development Programmes
Faculty Development Programs are provided by ISTE. MCET is a center for Faculty Development Programme supported by IITK and IITB (called Ekalavya). Under this, a two Week ISTE Short Term Training Programme on “INTRODUCTION TO STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING”, was organized from January 4th -9th, 2016. Under MOU with HLL, both faculty and students are provided internship. Faculty is also trained by sending for short courses like Sustainability Engineering, Life Skill etc. An FDP on “Construction in BIM” is also being organized in the Department this year.
