Department of Maths

Mathematics, Science & Humanities

Mathematics is the heart and all other disciplines are the heart beats. Without heart there cannot be heart beat and without heart beat a heart is of no sense. The Department of Mathematics,Science and Humanities came into existence in 2002 along with the institution with the purpose of empowering the Engineering students with strong mathematical and scientific base, improve their logical and analytical thinking, and boost their level of understanding of underlying concepts in technical fields. The department offers various basic and advanced courses in Engineering Mathematics for all UG and PG Programs; theory and practical courses in Engineering Physics and Engineering Chemistry courses for UG Programs, Industrial Economics & Foreign Trade, Constitution, Business Economics for MBA and Professional Communications & Language Labs for UG students. The department takes overall care of all the first year students of the institution and supports all other Engineering department activities in grooming the students of this institution into well trained engineers with strong scientific background. Considering the vast importance and inevitable role of mathematics in all streams of Science, Engineering and Technology, the department takes the initiative in organizing various events such as seminars, conferences and workshops and faculty development programs apart from regular bridge courses and orientation programs for students and an International Conference once in every five years. The department organizes free KEAM orientation Program for Plus Two students every year in association with the Margadarshi as a part of extension activity. Some of the events organized by the department are:

  • A two day Seminar on Applied Mathematics in Engineering (SAME’12) and Ramanujan memorial Lecture in 2012.
  • A four day International Conference on Mathematics Education and Mathematics in Engineering and Technology (ICMET’13) in 2013 co-sponsored by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and supported by Kerala Mathematical Association (KMA), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Indian Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ISIAM)
  • A five day Workshop on Applicable Mathematics in Science and Engineering (WAMS’14) in 2014 supported by KMA
  • A Lecture Series for faculty and PG students on Probability Distributions and Random Processes in 2015 in association with the MCET Department of Computer Science Engineering
  • A two day Orientation Program on Engineering Mathematics for the faculty in 2016
  • A five day Faculty Development Programme on ‘Research Methodology and Mathematical Approaches for Engineering Research’ in 2017 in association with the MCET Research Wing.
  • In 2018, the department organized a four day international conference on Numerical Analysis, Computing and Applications in Science, Engineering and Technology (ICNumACA’18), with In-cooperation support by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM, Philadelphia, USA) and with academic support by the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS), Indian Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ISIAM) and Kerala Mathematical Association (KMA) and co-sponsored by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), KSCSTE, CSIR and ISRO.
