Dr. Mallayya joined the MCET in July 2012 as Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics, Science and Humanities after 31 years of service in Mar Ivanios College, Trivandrum. He started his career from St John’s College, Anchal and retired from Mar Ivanios College Trivandrum as Prof and Head of the DST-FIST sponsored Post Graduate & Research Department of Mathematics. He was the Coordinator of the ‘Centre for Mathematical Sciences’ (South Campus): an approved Research Centre in mathematics of MG University under the Directorship of Emeritus Prof. Dr. AM Mathai, Mc Gill University, Canada. As an approved Research Guide, Dr. Mallayya supervised and produced 4 Ph.Ds in Mathematics from the Kerala University. His research areas include Numerical Analysis, Infinite series & series approximations, Theory of Magic Squares, Indian Mathematics in general & Kerala Mathematics in particular. He has published 100 research papers in various peer reviewed journals and was the Principal contributor to the research output of 3 acclaimed books authored by Dr. George Gheverghese Joseph, University of Manchester. Dr. Mallayya is a Reviewer for the ‘Mathematical Reviews’ of the American Mathematical Society. He is the Asst. Editor of peer reviewed journal Ganita Bharati, Bulletin of the Indian Society for History of Mathematics. Dr Mallayya served as a Research Associate on a 3 year International Project on Kerala Mathematics sponsored by Arts and Humanities Research Board, UK and University of Exeter, UK investigated by Dr. GG Joseph, University of Manchester. As an invited speaker, Dr Mallayya participated, chaired and delivered talks in various conferences, seminars, and workshops in various parts of India and abroad.

For his research contributions in the field of Mathematics in India, especially Kerala, Dr. Mallayya received the award ‘Madhava Ganita Puraskar’ for the year 2020.

Dr Mallayya served as a member of the PG Board of Studies in Mathematics of Kerala University; Chairman & member of Board of Examiners for various University Examinations and for evaluation of MPhil, Ph.D thesis in various Universities. He also served as a Resource Person for Summer Institutes in Mathematics for School teachers organized by State Institute of Education, Govt. of Kerala, and for Refresher Courses for University and College Teachers. Dr Mallayya was included in the Mathrubhumi Panel as a subject expert for Popularization of Science among Rural Students and equip them to face the competitive examinations for pursuing professional courses in IITs and Professional Colleges. As a part of this he provided weekly study materials for 10 years through the ‘Mathrubhumi Thozhil Vartha’ and co-authored 2 books ‘Pathfinder’ published by the Mathrubhumi, Kozhikode.

Dr Mallayya is a Life Member of various Mathematics associations and Societies and is a member of the Executive Council of the Indian Society for History of Mathematics.
