Dr. P Jayaprakash  joined the MCET in December 2014  as Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering after  35 years of experience, of which he spent around 25 years in teaching, Post graduate and Under graduate students at University and College levels, of which around four years in UAE–Sharjah and Colombo, in the area of Computer Science & Information Technology and also in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, five years in Research and Development in the area of Computer Science and Information Technology. He took his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the University of Kerala and Master’s degree (M-Tech) in Computer & Information Sciences from Cochin University of Science & Technology. He has been awarded Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science by the Cochin University of Science & Technology for his thesis on “Knowledge Based Geographic Information Systems”. His areas of interest also include Computer Networking, Mobile communication, E-Commerce, Microcontroller based system Design.

 He was the Co-ordinator of Curriculum Development – Computer Science, and was instrumental in preparing the course structure of Computer Science course of Mahatma Gandhi University while he was working there as the Professor & Head of the department of Computer Science.  He has been accredited by the TROY University, USA to teach eighteen Computer Science courses globally while he was working as Associate Professor and Acting Dean of Computer Science in Troy University, USA, Sharjah Campus. He also took part-time assignments in many Universities in the UAE and also under took many projects at undergraduate and Master’s level. He was also member in various academic bodies like Board of Studies and curriculum development committee and syllabus revision committee of various Universities. Worked as Professor &  College of Head, Department of Computer Science & Engineering in Marian Engineering College, Menamkulam, Kazhakuttom, Thiruvananthapuram from January 2020–January 2023. He joined back in Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology from July 2023 and is continuing as Prof. & HoD of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

The department commenced in 2002 offering B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering.

Further in 2012 M.Tech degree course in Computer Science and Engineering was started in the department. The department is well supported by the state- of- the-art facility and a team of well qualified and motivated faculty. The department is located on it’s own independent CS/IT block in the campus with pleasant setting of a serene atmosphere. Apart from extending the regular training to the students within the frame work of the University curriculum, special emphasis is given to further value addition by imparting training to the students on emerging areas that cater to varying needs of the industry and other organizations.

The department provides and supports high quality education and training to encourage independent thinking and initiatives in students. A close rapport is maintained with researchers in the field of Computer Science & Information Technology in other Universities within the country and abroad. Faculty and students co-ordinate with investigators in research and industrial organizations to maintain the pace with fast changing trends in IT and related industries.

We offer add-on courses like CISCO Certified Network Training Programmes and Microsoft Certified Training Programmes along with Computer Hardware Training programmes to the students to enhance their skills. Various courses on free and open source Software, Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning and Deep learning are also offered.

ADDITIONAL FACILITIES FOR M.TECH COURSE

To address the enhanced technical and academic requirements of the M.Tech students the following additional facilities are provided

  • A separate PG and Research Laboratory is set up to cope up with the enhanced hardware and software requirements. The Systems in the laboratory are installed with the advanced simulation and training packages. The laboratory is extended to the PG students even after the normal working hours of the college.
  • The department has signed an MoU with C-DAC (T) to enable the PG students to do their thesis project in association with the technical expertise and support of the research organization.
  • National conferences are organized by the department in a regular manner to help the PG students to present their research papers in the conference and subsequently to be published in one of the International Journals which the department will collaborate with.
  • The department library is always updated with the latest requirements of text books on advanced areas on elective subjects for the PG students.
  • Expert lectures by external faculty and researches from other universities and research organizations are organized in a regular manner.
