National Service Scheme (NSS)
NSS unit of Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology conducted a cleaning activity as part of Gandhi Jayanti at Government District hospital Nedumangad.
Onam Feast with the inmates of SMSS Hindu Mahila Mandiram at Poojappura (6/9/2023)
Mohandas College of Engineering And Technology has conducted a Onam Feast with Onam lunch for the inmates of SMSS Hindu Mahila Mandiram at Poojappura On 6th September 2023. Respected Principal, Dr. Sheela Mam distributed Books and Stationery items to the children. College NSS unit 159 conducted this program and all of the volunteers spend time with the inmates and created a lot of happy moments with them.
Anti Ragging Awareness Programme(03/08/2023)
NSS unit and Anti Ragging cell of our college collaborated and conducted an anti ragging awareness programme for the first year students. Hotel Management and MBA students were also included. The session was engaged by Mr.Arun Kumar S, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch. Towards the end of the session, students were enlightened about the ideal behavior and decorum to be followed in the college. The evils of ragging and the indelible marks it leaves on the victims were discussed. The session was highly interactive and the students seemed to be very impressed with it.
Anti Drug’s Awareness Programme(30/06/2023)
Anti Drug’s Awareness Programme given by Sri.P.K Jayaraj, Assistant Excise Commissioner conducted at Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology on 30th June 2023.
World Mother Language Day
On 21st February 2021 in relation with world mother language day , we conducted an online Extempore Competition and Essay Writing Competition. The session was coordinates by our NSS volunteers. Over 50 volunteers participated in the programme and the winners will be declared soon.
SHAHEED DIVAS
MCET NSS unit had celebrated the Martyrs day with our volunteers. As a part of the day we had conducted a Slogan Writing, and Poetry Writing Competition. Every one who participated displayed impeccable strength and respect for martyrs’ and almost more than 50 volunteers participated.
VOTING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
An awareness programme was conducted to promote voting and its importance and safety procedures to be followed during this covid pandemic situations. and awareness was given to the public by releasing posters on its importance and circulating the posters maximum to the public.
WORLD HEALTH DAY
Our NSS unit conducted a webinar on ‘COVID-19 and mental health’ on 7th April 2021. The session was handled by Prof. Harikrishnan and more than 60 volunteers were present in this webinar.
WORLD HOMEOPATHY DAY
A webinar was conducted on 10th April 2021, world homeopathy day. Webinar was on medicine making by biotechnology and it was conducted by Proff. Punnia Prasad. Almost 70 volunteers participated on this webinar.
WORLD EARTH DAY
As a part of world earth day April 22, our NSS unit planned to plant 100 Tree saplings and was done successfull. Over 70 volunteers participated and the program was conducted by Natural Protection Team.
JAGRATHA
Our NSS unit conducted an oral cancer awareness campaign on April 25. The webinar was conducted by Dr. Tharan V. Jacob and it was around 1 hour. 100 volunteers participated in the webinar.
MALALA DAY
We observed Malala Day on July 12th, by conducting a quiz competition. Many students actively took part in the competition and the results will be announced soon.
RAIN WATER HARVESTING PROGRAM
In accordance with the order from NSS Regional Directorate ( Reference No: KTU/NSS/004/181/2021) which states to conduct a program for conservation of water and rain water harvesting named “CATCH THE RAIN”. On August 8th, our conducted a write up competition on suggesting methods for Rain water harvesting . Our unit received almost 40 entries and all actively participated.
ONAM CELEBRATION (24/08/2021)
Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology NSS unit 159 celebrated Onam at karunalayam on 24/08/2021, College Director Dr. Asha latha Thampuran, Principal Dr. S Sheela, programme officer Nidhish B.N. and around 10 volunteers were present for the event. Director, Principal and Program Officer delivered a small speech about Onam. Thereafter onapudava were gifted to the inmates by Director and Principal. Then everyone had a delicious onasadhya. After that sweets were distributed and all the events were conducted by strictly adhering to covid protocol and all safety measures are taken care of.
INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY
On 8th September 2021, International Literacy day our unit conducted an Essay Writing Competition on the topic “Literacy for a human centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”. The program was conducted by our day observation team and almost all volunteers took part in this competition and the winners are to be announced soon.
WORLD POSTAL DAY
On 9th October 2021, in connection with World Postal day MCET NSS conducted a stamp design competition was held and the design done was based on the theme “World Peace”. We received many entries and the winners are to be announced.
NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY
On November 7th, our NSS unit celebrated National Cancer awareness day by conducting a group discussion session on the topic “Food and its role in cancer” and the session was conducted via google meet by our community activity team.
FOOD DISTRIBUTION AND MENSTRUAL HYGIENCE AWARENESS
On 3rd December our NSS unit conducted a food distribution program and menstrual hygiene awareness class at manacaud orphanage. The programme was inaugurated by our P.O Prof Nidhish and orphanage director. The menstrual hygiene class was taken by our speaker Dr. Simi ma’am. We arranged feast for all the children in the orphanage. 20 volunteers were present for the function.
7 DAY CAMP- PRATHEEKSHA
The camp started on 7th January 2022 with the covid protocol, and took adequate safety measures and the inaugural function was conducted. The works performed were mainly college campus setting, Anad school renovation, Mapathon, Anad ayurveda hospital cleaning, Kallar Meenmutty path cleaning and awareness rally about forest fire. The volunteers were also enlightened by the classes taken by Sri. Brahmanayakam Mahadevan, Mrs. Anina, Mr. Nandu Hari, Proff. Pradeep Raj, Proff. Harikrishnan.
NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY
On 28th February 2022, our NSS unit released posters on the importance of national science day and we had conducted an essay writing competition on the topic ‘Science is a best invention of a universe’.
NATIONAL VACCINATION DAY
On 16th March 2022 , our NSS unit released posters about national vaccination day inorder to spread the importance of vaccination and encouraged everyone to have vaccination.
WORLD WATER DAY
On 22nd March, our NSS unit had released posters to spread the importance of world water day and to aware everyone that lot of countries are facing water scarcity and we should not waste water and also we have conducted an idea hunt on the topic “Water and climate change”.
NSS Volunteer Secretary Meeting of KTU NSS cell was organised and held at Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology, Anad on 8th Feb 2020. Volunteer secretaries of various colleges in and around Trivandrum participated in the programme. The sessions were handled by Dr.Joy Varghese, KTU NSS Cell. The outcome of the sessions were planning of upcoming NSS activities and emphasis on leadership skills.Dr Ashalatha Thampuran, Director, MCET inaugurated the event and Dr.S.Sheela, Principal, MCET delivered the Presidential Address
The state level NSS Volunteer Secretaries and Programme Officers workshop conducted by our college on 13th, 14th and 15th June 2014 has a great success. Padmasree Sri.G.Shankar, Founder of Habitat Technology Group and an eminent contemporary architech of our state inaugurated the workshop. Shri.AbdulJabbarAhammed, Programme Co-ordinator, NSS Tech. cell and Shri.Harichandran TVM District co-ordinator had praised the achievements of MCET and wished on the occasion. The three day state level workshop sessions were enriched by the presents of various expertise including Shri.C.Samuel Chelliah (Youth Officer and Head, NSS Regional Centre) Shri. I V Soman(Co-ordinator, NSS ETI, Kalamassery), Shri. C M Shajahan(PENTA Officer in Charge), Shri. Ravi Mohan(Project Consultant, NSS Tech cell), Shri. Brahmanayakam Mahadevan, Shri.P S Prasanth(Vice Chairman, Kerala State Youth Wellfare Board) has made the valedictory message. The contribution and support rendered by our Director Dr.AshalathaThampuran and the Management Shri.G Mohandas, Chairman of our college need special acknowledgment. The heartful involvement of NSS Programme Officer Ms.Sherin Jose, Volunteers, Various teaching and non teaching staff made the programme a great success.

Padmasree Smt Lekshmi Kutty Amma, a practitioner of traditional medicine visited the NSS annual camp conducted by Mohandas College of Engineering and technology Anad at Govt Tribal LPS Thalathoothakaavu, Vithura. She spoke to the students about her vast experience in traditional medicine and interacted with the students.
As part of NSS MCET activities for World Food Day on 16th October 2019, the food Packets were distributed at Peroorkada Government Model Hospital. The inauguration was done by Dr. Bindu, Deputy Superintendent of the Hospital.
The National Service Scheme unit was formed with a noble aim of serving the different sections of the under privileged and the needy. The NSS unit of MCET actively organizes various social services activities for the communities from March 2004 onwards. The motto of NSS unit is ‘Not me, But you..!’. The unit donates clothes, baby food etc. to the Infant Care Centre of Council for Child Welfare. The NSS volunteers of the college have donated Blood to a number of patients admitted in hospitals in Trivandrum. The program organized by NSS includes free medical camp for the people of Anad panchayat, Blood donation camp, Health awareness, Cleaning program in KSRTC depot, Hospitals etc, Planting medical tree in the premises of Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital, Distribution of study materials and other accessories for Govt. L P Schools of Anad and Chullimanoor. The unit organizes intensive campaign for sensitizing the students about the need for fostering communal harmony, National Integration and fraternity through various programmes. The unit also hosted the Annual meet of National Service Scheme during the year 2010.
