SDPK Enable course

“Enable course of SDPK” is organized under the project of State Skill Development by government of Kerala to equip its young population with skills in cutting-edge sectors in order to effectively address the unemployment problems in the State through Additional Skill Acquisition Programme– ASAP. “Enable course of SDPK” is currently being conducted in then “Skill Delivery Platform in the PG laboratory of Department of Computer Science And Engineering, Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology from July 22nd to Aug 6th, 2019. This course is conducted by the ICT academy, Kerala. The course is conducted only for the 2019 passed out students of selected institutions across Kerala who have already signed an agreement with ASAP.This 30 hour course include Aptitude Skills Module, Communication skills, Social profiling, Interview skills, Life skills, General IT skills etc.

Workshop on "Android Application Development"

1st & 2nd March 2019

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, MCET in association with Computer Society of India (MCET chapter) has organized a two days workshop on “Android Application Development ” on 1st and 2nd March 2019 for the students of Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering. 40 students from various Engineering Colleges in Trivandrum district attended the workshop. The completely hands on workshop was handled by the resource persons from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and MCA of Mohandas College of Engineering & Technology, Anad, Nedumangad, Trivandrum.

About the workshop

Most of hand-held devices today runs on the easily customizable and open source Operating System – Android. The two days Android Application Development workshop is designed to quickly get the students to speed with writing apps for Android devices. By the end of the course, students would be able to write simple GUI applications, use built-in widgets and components, work with the database to store data locally, and much more. The workshop on Android Application Development aimed to provide the participants with technical training on the concepts and programming methodologies needed to develop applications for mobile devices. Participants would learn to use different android libraries and will be able to develop their own android applications. Instruction is aided with hands on training which helped the students to grasp concepts of the complete mobile application development.

The major topics covered included- Basic Building blocks- Activities- Services- Broadcast Receivers- Content providers- UI Components- Views- Notifications – Components for communication- Intents & Intent Filters- Emulator-Android Virtual Device- Basic UI design- Basic UI design- Styles & Themes- Content Providers- SQLite Programming – Case study –Develop an App to demonstrate database usage.

Mohandas College became part of SDPK

Skill Delivery Platform, Kerala

Mohandas College of Engineering & Technology, Anad, Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram , has become part of the Government of Kerala initiated project (SDPK) for linking Engineering Colleges in the State with IT Parks through a Tele-Presence network. This state- of-the-art technology enabled learning platform will connect 150 Hi-Tech classrooms in the Engineering colleges in the State of Kerala and shall impart skill training to around 50,000 students every year. This skill database which will have the students profile will help industries to conduct placement drive for fresh Engineering graduates. The implementation of the SDPK project of linking Engineering Colleges through Tele Presence Solutions to IT Hubs in the state was taken up by KSITIL (Kerala State IT Infrastructure Ltd.)

The inauguration of the SDPK in MCET along with 16 other Engineering Colleges in the state was done by Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala, on 27/02/2019, through Video Conferencing at a function held at the Office of the ICFOSS, in Greenfield stadium, Kariyavattom, Trivandrum.

Workshop on "Android Application Development"

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, MCET in association with FOSSCell@MCET and ICFOSS has organized a two days workshop on “Android Application Development ” on 8th & 9th February 2019 for students of Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering. The programme was sponsored by ICFOSS. 40 students from various Engineering Colleges including MCET attended the workshop. The workshop was conducted with the technical support from M/S Elementz Engineers Guild Pvt. Ltd

Workshop on "Python–Theory & Practice"

9th & 11th Jan 2019

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Mohandas College of Engineering & Technology, Trivandrum as part of its Community Outreach program (CETTA) in association with Computer Society of India, MCET chapter organized a 3 days training program on ” Python – Theory & Practice” from 9th to 11th January 2019 for the school teachers of 11th and 12th standards. The registration fee for the training program was Rs.900/- ( Rupees Nine Hundred Only).

The programme was attended by 40 computer Science teachers from various CBSE higher secondary schools throughout Kerala. The resource persons for the 3 days programme were drawn from the faculty of Computer Science & Engineering Department, MCET.

About the workshop

The objective of the workshop was to provide awareness and training at higher secondary school level on “Python” which has now become a general purpose programming language for industrial application in advanced areas like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics and many web related applications.

The course was designed based on the new syllabus of computer Science for the Plus1 and Plus 2 classes covering Programming and Computational Thinking – part I & II and is completely hands-on programming practice oriented.

The following are the major topics being discussed include:

Strings, Lists, Tuples and Dictionaries – Concepts in Object Oriented Programming

Classes in Python – Inheritance- Stacks and Queues-Linear List manipulation – data file handling – Exception handling and generate function etc.

Faculty Development Program on Bio-engineering and Solid Waste Management

In the present scenario, due to the urbanization and industrialization, huge quantities of hazardous and non- hazardous waste are being generated. Globally proper disposal of them is a major problem. Bio engineering is capable of offering solution to this problem to great extent. The main objective of the programme is to given awareness for the academicians under KTU on bioengineering and different solid waste management techniques.

The International Conference on Numerical Analysis, Computing and Applications in science and engineering and technology ( ICNumACA)18 organized by the Department of Mathematics, Mohandas college of engineering and technology ,Anad was officially inaugurated by Dr. George Gheverghese joseph, Professor university of Manchester, UK on 17th December 2018 at 10.30am in the college auditorium. Dr. S Sheela Principal MCET delivered the welcome address. The presidential address was given by Dr. Ashalatha Thampuran Director MCET. Sri. G Mohandas Chairman VNGP Trust and Smt. Rani Mohandas secretary VNGP Trust addressed the gathering during the function. Sri G. Mohandas honoured the Chief guests with Ponnada and Smt. Rani Mohandas presented memento. Dr V Madukar Mallaya Professor and HOD department of mathematics gave a briefing of the objectives of four day international conference. Dr. E Krishnan (Professor Retd. University college Kerala) and DR. S Dasgupta ( Retd. HOD , EEE Department ) felicitated the occasion. Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Nisha S ( Dept. of Mathematics ) . Eminent foreign experts like Dr.Ricardo Ruiz Baier (Oxford), Dr. Csaba Gaspar (Hungary), Dr. Afaf Bouharguane (France), Dr. Maria Gonzalez Taboada (Spain), Dr. Betuel Canhanga (Mozambique), Dr. Kanhaiya Jha (Nepal), Dr. Veronica Anaya Dominguez (Chile), Dr. Mehmet Emir Koksal (Turkey), Dr. David Mora (Chile). were present during the inaugural ceremony. The four day event will conclude on 20th December 2018.

 

Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on“Embedded System Design For IoT and VR Applications – Theory & Practice” (10th to 14th December 2018) ( 5 Days)

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, MCET organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Embedded System Design for IoT and VR Applications –Theory & Practice” from 10th to 14th December 2018. The programme was sponsored by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

The FDP was mainly intended for faculty members of Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics & Communication Engineering departments of AICTE approved institutions affiliated to KTU.

There was no course fee for the programme. The number of participants was limited 30. The programme was well attended by 34 faculty members from various Engineering Colleges in Kerala, affiliated to the Kerala Technological University.

About the FDP

This programme helped the participants to learn the principles associated with the design and building IoT and VR projects with hands on experience in embedded system design for IoT and VR applications and facilitates the integration and interaction with heterogeneous components, including physical, mobile and virtual ones. The faculty members were drawn from Amritha University, Coimbatore and Government Engineering College, idukki with technical support from, Amritha IoT Research Lab, JRM Technologies , Coimbatore and Riyasaa Labs, Nagarcoil. The daywise programme schedule was as follows

Day1 : Internet of Things – Introduction and IoT Use Cases.

Embedded System Design for IoT Node /Edge Hardware devices.

Hardware Platform: Arduino based IoT Node including NodeMCU

Software: Embedded C using Arduino Platform

Connectivity: Wired and Wireless Ethernet, BlueTooth Smart

Day 2: Protocols for IoT

Protocols for loT – Infrastructure protocol (IPV4/V6|RPL), Identification (URLs), Transport (Wi-Fi, BLE), Service Discovery, Data Protocols, Device Management Protocols.

Hands-On -A Case Study with MQTT/CoAP/Web Sockets usage.

Day 3: Embedded System Design for IoT Nodes and Gateways

One Day Workshop on "Corrosion in Concrete & Rehabilitation"

This was jointly organized with the Society for Surface Protection on 18-9-2018 for the final year students of Civil Engineering. The SSPC MCET chapter was also inaugurated on 18-09-18. The inaugural meeting was coordinated by Prof Megha M. The meeting was addressed by Dr. AshalathaThampuran, Director and Principal Dr. Sheela. Mr. KGK Moorthy (President SSPC, South India) gave an Introduction to SSPC and also introduced the chief guest Dr. A S Khanna (Chairman of SSPC, India, Prof, IIT Bombay). Prof A S Khanna delivered the keynote address on the topic “Domain of Corrosion and Advanced Technologies to Combat Corrosion”.

Three Day FDP for Civil Engineering Faculty - Construction Management in BIM

Department of Civil Engineering, Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology and BIMLABS jointly organized a 3 day Faculty Development Programme for Civil Engineering Faculty members on the topic “Construction Management in BIM”. This hands on workshop included (1) Managing Building Models in Revit, Architectural, Structural & MEP, (2) Project Management 4D, 5D in BIM and (3) Project Review, Construction Coordination, Construction Simulation, Connected BIM. The workshop was inaugurated by the Director Prof. AshalathaThampuran on 18-07-2018. The workshop was well participated by internal and external faculty members. The workshop was supported by ISTE, ICI and IEI professional chapters of the college.

Workshop - Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures

This workshop was jointly conducted with Cera-Chem Private Limited on 27th April 2018, supported by MCET – ICI student chapter. Carbon Fiber wrapping is an advanced technology in civil engineering field for retrofitting the structures.Eventhough it’s been years after its introduction to the civil engineering field many are still not aware of this technology.Taking this into consideration, such a workshop was organized for the fourth semester students. The basic idea of the workshop was to compare the compressive strength of specimens with and without carbon fiber.Six specimens were casted out of which 3 was wrapped with carbon fiber and 3 were kept as raw specimen.

TWO DAY WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF MICROSOFT PROJECT JOINTLY BY INTERCAD AND ICI STUDENTS CHAPTER

27 students participated in the workshop organized on 25 and 26th April, 2018.

Workshop on "Drupal"- 3rd & 4th August 2018

Inauguration of 2days Workshop on “Drupal”was conducted in the CGPC Hall of Mohandas College of Engineering & Technology on 03rd of August 2018. It was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Dr. Sheela S (Principal, MCET) followed by an inaugural address. Dr. P. Jayaprakash (HOD, Department of Computer science and Engineering, MCET) welcomed the Chief Guests and the audience. He also gave a brief idea about FOSSCEL@MCET, its objectives and about the need and benefits of using free software like “Drupal”. A felicitation speech was given by Dr B Sivasubramonian, HOD – ME Department. Mr. JithinMohan (Student Coordinator, Fosscell@mcet, Dept. of CSE, MCET) extended the vote of thanks.

 

Workshop on “Drupal” was for 2 days on the 3rd and 4th August , 2018.The workshop was conducted as hands on training at the network lab of CSE department. We were too lucky to get Mr. Abhiram and Mr. Kiran, two well experienced persons from AVS technologies as the trainers for the workshop. The 32 participants were all engineering students from different semesters and branches of engineering.They gave a very positive feedback about the programme.

4th National conference & workshop- TECHSYNOD’17 on “Advances in Bioenergy & Biomaterials and Advances in Mechanical Engineering & Mechatronics” sponsored by ISTE MCET chapter, KSCSTE, CSIR, DRDO, ISRO, IIChE was conducted on 19 – 21 December 2017. 14 papers which comprises of 11 external and 3 internal were presented.

PRABANDH’17 – NATIONAL CONFERENCE ( from 19th to 2oth April 2017) DAY 1: 19-04-2017

PRABANDH’17, the National conference on “Recent Advances in Computer science and Engineering, Applied Electronics and Power Engineering” was held for 2 days from 19th to 20th April, 2017, organized by Mohandas College of Engineering & Technology Anad, Trivandrum.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Jayasankar Prasad, Director ICFOSS at 9.00 AM on 19/04/2017 in the presence of Sri. G. Mohandas, Ms. Rani Mohandas, Chairman and secretary respectively of VNGP Trust, the Director Dr. Ashalatha Thampuran and Principal Dr. S. Sheela.

Many distinguished personalities from various fields of Computer Science & Engineering, Applied Electronics and Power Engineering like Mr. Mahendramurali, Group Head, PPEG – Program Planning and Evaluation Group from VSSC and Engineers from C-DAC were present in the inaugural function. The inaugural session was over by 10 AM which was followed by key note speeches and technical sessions of the three streams of Computer Science, Applied Electronics and Power Engineering in three different venues in parallel from 10.30 AM onwards.

Technical Session 1 (10.30 AM to 12.30 PM)

In the Computer Science stream the keynote speech was on the topic “Data Analytics and Data Sciences – Tools & Techniques” by Dr. Madhu Kumar S.D, Professor, NITC, Calicuit.

In the Applied electronics stream, the keynote speech was on the topic “Reconstructing 3D scenes from images for robot vision” by Dr. Jiji.C.V, Professor ,College of Engineering , Trivandrum, a challenging and emerging research area that finds application in many areas such as Computer Aided Graphic Design (CAGD), Computer Graphics, Computer Animation, Computer Vision, Medical Imaging, Virtual Reality etc.

In the Power Engineering stream the keynote speech was on the topic “Solar Power Integration – Challenges and Opportunities” by Dr. Sasidharan Sreedharan Professor of Electrical Engineering, who did his PDF in the University Havaii (USA) in the Renewable Energy Design Laboratory.

Technical Session 2 (1.30 PM to 3.30 PM)

In the Computer Science stream, the technical was on the topic “Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality” by ” Dr. Shriram K Vasudevan, Amritha School of Engineering, Amritha University, Coimbatore.

In the Applied electronics stream the technical session was a talk on “Silicon and Non-Silicon based Microsystems: Design and Development” by V. Seena, Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology (IIST, Trivandrum)

In the Power Engineering stream the technical speech was on the topic ” Green and Renewable Energy Technology, Power Quality and Smart Grid and Power Electronics” by J. Sudhakaran Nair.

DAY 2: 20-04-2017 (Paper presentation Session)

This time, the focus of the conference was on “Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality , Data analytics & data Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Information & Cyber Security, in the field of Computer Science, Optical and Bio-medical Instrumentation, Virtual Instrumentation, Signal and Image Processing and Artificial Neural Networks in the field of Applied Electronics, Power System Modeling & Control , Green and Renewable Energy Technology and Smart Grid and Power Electronics in the field of Power Engineering.

In the CS stream, 20 conference papers were received out of which 14 papers were selected by the review committee for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings.

In the Applied Electronics stream 13 papers were selected by the review committee for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings.

In the Power Engineering stream, out of the 18 conference papers received 17 papers were selected by the review committee for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings. A total of 44 papers were presented in three different venues and were published in the conference proceedings.

We have also collaborated with the International Journal of Advanced Research Trends in Engineering and Technology (IJARTET) for publication of the selected papers. All the selected papers presented in the conference were published in the journal.

Workshop on “Blender”

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering in association with FOSSCELL@MCET and ICFOSS (International Committee on Free and Open Source Software) is organizing a 3 days workshop on “Blender” from 9th – 11th August 2017 at Mohandas College of Engineering & Technology.

The objective of the workshop was to impart a hands on training on “Blender” which is a professional Free and Open Source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications and video games. Blender’s features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster graphics editing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, soft body simulation, sculpting, animating, match moving, camera tracking, rendering, video editing and compositing. It further features an integrated game engine

The audience targeted were students/Faculty members of CSE, CE & ME streams from AICTE approved Engineering Colleges and practicing Engineers from industries.

National Conferences on advanced areas of Civil Engineering are organized periodically (every year) by the department for bringing together academicians, researchers, and industry personals to share their research findings and innovations. This will help the teachers and students in acquiring knowledge in the latest developments in specified areas of their research interest. The Civil Department jointly organized with CSE and MCA Departments a two day national conference TECHSYNOD’16 and the theme for Civil Engineering Conference was Sustainability in Civil Engineering. In addition to large number of participants, eminent professors and technologists ( Prof. N. Ganesan, NIT Calicut; Prof. C. Ganapathy, Rtd Prof., IIT Madras; Mr Jose Kurian, Former CE, CPWD) gave key note talks. There was also a pre-conference One day Workshop on “Rainwater Harvesting”by Dr. M.V.S.S. Giridhar, HOD, Jawahar Lal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.

Faculty Development Programs are provided by ISTE. MCET is a center for Faculty Development Programme supported by IITK and IITB (called Ekalavya). Under this, a two Week ISTE Short Term Training Programme on “INTRODUCTION TO STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING”, was organized from January 4th -9th, 2016. Under MOU with HLL, both faculty and students are provided internship. Faculty is also trained by sending for short courses like Sustainability Engineering, Life Skill etc. An FDP on “Construction in BIM” is also being organized in the Department this year.

Community Outreach Programme of MCET

About the Programme

Community Outreach programme organised by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Mohandas College of Engineering & Technology aims at empowering the community especially rural community with the latest developments in technologies especially ICT by ensuring their partnership with Technical Institutions like MCET, benefiting the community as whole and enabling the teachers to serve the community in a better way as commitment to the society as well as the institution to satisfy the requirements as part of the it’s Corporate Social Responsibility. Being an Educational Institution we concentrate on empowering the teachers at the high School and Higher Secondary levels by imparting quality training on IT related areas and prepare them to handle the subjects in a way to imbibe ICT skills in students which has become the need of the hour. The programme is extended to the student community as well.

Our Outreach activities also promote the digital awareness among common man by contributing towards “Digital Empowerment of Citizens”. We support educating citizens on functional Digital Literacy, Cyber Security, Cyber Hygiene and ensure better utilization of Digital Infrastructure in a better and non-profitable way so that people get benefit out of the latest development in Information Communication Technology (ICT).

We started the programme in the year 2016 and are continuing with the mission, because of the resounding success and positive feedback that we have received. As part of community Outreach programme we have already conducted more than five workshops for the students from reputed schools in Thiruvananthapuram.

 

CETTA (Community Empowerment Through Technological Advancement)

CETTA (Community Empowerment Through Technological Advancement), a non profit community outreach programme of MCET is a new venture started by the department in the year 2016. CETTA aims at empowering the community, especially the rural community with the latest developments in technologies by ensuring their partnership with MCET. This benefits the community as a whole, enabling the institution and the teachers of MCET to serve the community in a better way as a commitment to the society and as part of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

 

AS part of CETTA the department has already organized many programs to the teachers and students of High schools and Higher Secondary schools. The programmes are mainly on imparting high quality training on IT related areas to equip the teachers with advanced ICT skills and promote digital awareness among common man by contributing towards “ Digital Empowerment of Citizens”.

 

TWO WEEK ISTE STTP ON “INTRODUCTION TO STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING” ORGANIZED BETWEEN THE DATES JAN 4TH -9TH 2015

 

This workshop organized by IIT Kharagpur under the National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Govt. of India was co-ordinated at Mohandas College of Engineering by Dr Narayanan. S , HOD Civil Engineering Department. Internal Faculty as well as faculty from nearby colleges participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated in the college by our Director Professor Ashalatha Thampuran

WAMS-2014

A five day Workshop on Applicable Mathematics and Statistics (WAMS’14) was organized by Department of Mathematics from 13th to 17th October 2014. Sessions were handled by Dr. E Krishnan (Visiting faculty IISER), Dr. Joseph Cherian (C.E.T), Dr.T.Sarachandran (Rtd.D.D.E), Dr.Shibu D S (University college)and Prof.Sajith P (L.B.S Institute of Technology)

ICMET’13:- Mathematics is the backbone of all streams in Engineering, Science and Technology. A sound knowledge of Mathematics from basic to advanced level is highly essential for the development and understanding of each and every technological process. Taking in to consideration this vast importance of Mathematics and Mathematics education in Engineering and Technology, the first international event in MCET namely the “International Conference on Mathematics Education and Mathematics in Engineering and Technology” (ICMET’13) was organized by MCET under the auspices of the Department of Mathematics from 17-20 Dec 2013.The event was organized to commemorate the fiftieth death anniversary of Sri. V N Gangadhara Panicker and also to celebrate the International Year of Statistics. The conference was cosponsored by KSCSTE and technically supported by Kerala Mathematical Association (KMA), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE Kerala Section) and Indian Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ISIAM).

The four day event was aimed at providing powerful intellectual stimulation for the delegates to share mathematical knowledge across cultures and update the recent advances and innovations in the subject. The scientific program consisted of invited talks, discussions and paper presentations.

Seminars

Dr.Pradeep of NeST addressing students of MCET on 1st Dec 2022, on the topic “Future of Work”.

One day National seminar on “Novel Technologies for Sustainable Development” sponsored by ISTE MCET chapter, KSCSTE, CSIR, DRDO, ISRO, IIChE was conducted on 20th February 2016. A total of 11 papers were presented out of which 8 were internal and 3 were external.

Institution conducts annual seminars/workshops to promote research activities of the staff members and to provide awareness regarding the modern trends and developments in technical field.

Workshop on “DWSIM- Open source simulation” was handled by Dr. P. R. Naren, Sastra University.

Invited Talks:

“An overview on the development and challenges in fuel cell technology” by Dr. Reghuram Chetty, Dept. of Chemical Engg., IIT Madras.
